Bad 3 way switch

Post by Phat-O-Caster » Fri May 20, 2016 10:18 am

My new partsmaster, that has a brand new mint loaded 2016 classic player special donor body, seems to have a defective 3 way switch & I was curious if others have had issues? It worked OK at first but has since died in the bridge & middle positions. I have a Switchcraft replacement in the mail but I haven't purchased any new manufactured guitars since the mid 90's and never had a switch completely fail on me before-is this common in new guitars these days?

Found my problem with the three way-apparently during assembly the center ground wire came in contact with the hot solder on the adjoining wire and melted the insulation and was shorting out-replaced all with a Switchcraft 3 way and all's good. I wonder if this has something to do with the 2016 body being available from the Stratosphere-maybe it was a Fender reject that didn't pass QAQC?
