Calling Toronto people

Post by Tycho » Sat Apr 23, 2016 8:04 am

Hi all Torontonians,

Has anyone found a local tech who really understands the Jag/JM trem system, especially the dreaded trem-lock? I know how to adjust it myself (thanks to the wonderful "Higher Evolution" page), but I would rather leave it to someone else.

Please don't knock anyone in your replies...just let me know who you like! Thanks.

Zac at Superfuzz is great. Capsule does a good job. I've used both for my Jazzmaster.

Good experiences with Superfuzz (and when they were the Songbird repair crew)

Yep, I've heard Superfuzz is great for that. If you want to head up to Richmond Hill and go to Cosmo Music, they have an older gentleman named Daryl and he loves Jazzmasters and does a great job setting them up. I set mine up myself, but whenever I had any little issue I couldn't overcome, he did a great job.

??? 'Dreaded' in what sense?

It's a single screw adjustment of pre-loading against a spring. I can't really fathom how a system could be any more simple.

Daryl is awesome! I went up there once when dealing with a fender warranty issue. He's super nice and great to deal with. for what it's worth the guitar in question wasn't even bought at Cosmo, but they're handling it for me.

that store is crazy by the way. Probably the biggest music store in the GTA (?)

ya also i am wondering what issues you're having with the JM trem system. If you're having tuning issues, then i would look at the nut also. what's going on?

I don't have any issues with the trem-lock, because I know how to set it up so that it works the way it's supposed to. As I said in my original post, I'd just rather not do it myself. I'd rather get it done as part of a general set-up. However, I've encountered a surprising number of otherwise good techs who don't really understand it. Hence my question in this thread. Thanks all who provided advice.

After years of being dissatisfied with other people setting up guitars for me (sometimes getting them back and being worse than when I brought it in), I just bit the bullet and decided to learn how to set up guitars myself. It's waaaaay better now and I can set up the guitar to how I play rather than what somebody else deemed satisfactory.

I know that doesn't answer your question, but you know
