Jazzmaster stand recommendation?

Post by Glimmer » Sun Jan 24, 2016 9:59 am

Hope this is the right place to post this.

I'm looking for a sturdy, stable, finish-safe floor stand for my JM. I'd be using it only when practicing (my guitars live in their cases when they're not being played).

What do you use / recommend?

my 2 cents: The K&M Heli, the only "to go" stand that I'd ever recommend. Works great with Offsets too and is more stable and better quality than most of the other stands out there.
Also relatively inexpensive... (taking into account the quality etc.)

I'm using 3 or 4 pieces since more than 5 years, they are coated with a kind of rubber rather than this "standard guitar stand foam".

I never ever noticed any finish damage to any of my guitars and I kept some guitars on these stands for weeks, even vintage ones.

Please note: I can speak only for the Heli 1 ...have just realized that they have released the "Heli 2" in the meantime. No idea if they are still using the same materials.... so better to ask K&M directly regarding potential finish damages. I can only share my experience and I never had any issues with my Heli's

My practice space is pretty tight. I use a mic stand mounted string swing. Been doing it that way for years without issue and it doesn't take up any extra room.

Thanks for the replies, and for the Heli recommendations. The stands look good (prices, too), but how do they hold offset guitars – the base bars look to be the same level? Would seem to be perfect for an SG or LP

I mentioned above that it also works great with offsets.....
of course also "offset" in the stand ..... but that's totally fine and I think you can also adjust the wideness of the base on the version 2 model as well as on the acoustic model (the stands shown on your 2 pics above are actually the acoustic versions, both of them , those are a bit "deeper" than the electric guitar version )

I use Hercules stands, they've been fine with all finishes.

The Heli is alright, and it's easy to carry along for a gig, or practise.

But if you really want something sturdy, I'd go with the regular E-Stand from K&M

Fender's stand can be adjusted for offsets and is marketed with a Jazzmaster:

But does anyone know about it's nitro safety?

Thanks one and all for the replies.

I like the looks of the K&M stands, but am concerned about stability, given that the guitar has to sit in it off-center. PJazzmaster, you mention you've been using this stand for several years w/out issue so perhaps it is an unfounded concern.

Anybody use K&M's Memphis Pro?

Looks like a good possibility.

@Nick and the Noise – I had seen that Fender stand on-line. It's a good possibility as it seems to be one of if not the only stand that takes into account the "offset" nature of these guitar bodies. I'd want to look into whether it's finish-safe or not.

I suppose a plain-old stand like the below, with the rubber bits covered with felt, would do the job as well.

Used one for years with a parts bass (Explorer body, fretless Precision neck). Rubber ate right through the finish and left ugly scars, only in those days I didn't care. :D

the K&M's Memphis Pro is perfect live (you can carry easily the guitar and the stand while switching bands on stage) and is very stable.
that's part of my live rig

I'm also looking for a solid stand for a Jazzmaster AO 60s – preferably a "neck grip" version. Both solutions I found (König & Meyer Memphis Pro 17670 and Hercules Stands GS412B AGS) are explicitly not suitable for nitro! Are you aware of any other "neck stands" wich are suitable for nitro?

But it has the same warning: "Not suitable for nitro!"?
