pick-up suggestions to accompany a neck Jazzmaster pick-up
I'm looking for a humbucker for the bridge position. This is to accompany a Jazzmaster pick-up in the neck position.
The guitar's neck Jazzmaster pick-up has a DC resistance of 7.1k.
What type of humbucker would be a good match for the bridge position?
What sort of resistance DC would be about right, so that there is a good balance in the middle selection on a typical 3-way switching?
I was thinking of maybe a traditional PAF/vintage type humbucker?
Or maybe a (humbucker-sized) P90 would be an alternative to a humbucker?
(I would probably get a Jazzmaster bridge pick-up but I can't achieve that because of the routing and scratchplate of the guitar, and I don't what to muck about with the guitar that way.)
thanks

I would go first with the humbucker-sized P90, but the PAF style pickup wouldo sound great too (because PAFs are rad!) I think Tim Presley uses a jag neck and PAF bridge pickups configuration on his jazzmaster, and it sounds really good !

Re: pick-up suggestions to accompany a neck Jazzmaster pick-
I'm coming back to this thread of mine from February.
I'm still seeking advice and suggestings, and am considering my options.
I need a bridge pick-up to complement a neck Jazzmaster pick-up for my Fender Marauder guitar. I want to replace the stock 'triplebucker'.
I'm seeking suggests not for a specific pick-up model per se, but more for a general type of pick-up.
Notes to consider:
- The Jazzmastyer neck pick-up has a DC resistance 7.25k.
- I don't need the bridge pick-up to offer a radically different sound to the neck Jazzmaster sound: I have other guitars to cover other ground.
- Oh, and I mean other than Jazzmaster pickup (the scrathplate routing won't take one and I don't want to mess with it).
My thinking so for is either a low output humbucker or a P90 (in a humbucker sized housing). About 8.0k dc resistance?
Thoughts/suggestions/advice, please?
thanks

Is it a jazzmaster body? I'd probably throw any of made for Jazzmaster p'ups that Curtis Novak makes. Tele, P90, wrhb [love mine] boosted bridge pickup...so many good options.

0.5 to 1 ohm more for the bridge pickup should do. Pickup choice: really depends... a P90 will give you some nice midrange grit, great for lead work. Another nice option is a Tele style bridge pickup - lots of spank. But that's all down to personal taste, of course.

Re: pick-up suggestions to accompany a neck Jazzmaster pick-
Ro-S, Lollar makes a P90 that is mounted in a jazzmaster pickup cover (i.e. direct replacement for jazzmaster pickup, but perhaps not for the "triplebucker" in your Marauder).
I have one of these Lollar P90's in the bridge of one of my jazzmasters and it is a fun change-up to the traditional jazzmaster bridge pickup sound in my other jazzmasters.
The P90 has a bit more midrange/is less "thin" sounding than a jazzmaster bridge pickup. It "growls" a bit more when distorted and it combines really well with the jazzmaster neck pickup when the lead toggle is in the middle position.
If the triplebucker is in a standard Gibson sized humbucker housing and you want a direct replacement, then you could also consider a humbucker-sized wide-range humbucker (I believe that Novak makes one) or a humbucker-sized Gretsch-style Filter'Tron (e.g. a Lollar "Lollartron").
I recently put a Lollartron into a tele with a Seymour Duncan Alnico II Pro strat pickup in the neck and it sounds fantastic. Could be another option for you.

Thanks all 3 for the suggestions.
Yes, the bridge triplebucker is a typical humbucker size.
A Wide Range is another worthy candidate.
I'm afraid I don't wish to spend as much as a Lollar import would cost.

Since you're located in the UK, you might wnat to check out Mojo pickups. Marc is great to deal with and he custom wound me a set of great pups.

I have a set of Kent Armstrong humbucker sized p-90s that I love (8.5K). I think it would pair nicely with a JM neck pickup and it's priced decently.

I've gone with a vintage output humbucker to replace the triplebucker. I felt a vintage output humbucker would balance better with the tonality of the Jazzmaster neck pickup better than a P90 pickup would.
