Lee Ranaldo Jazzmaster 1Meg vs 500k Pot

Post by NICQ » Sun Dec 14, 2014 11:58 pm

I just broke the pot on my Lee Ranaldo Jazzmaster and need to replace it - as far as I know the WRHBs are normally wired to 500k Pots ?

Pickups are the "revoiced" WRHBs that originally came with the guitar that sound a bit dull for my taste with the 500k Pot...

Has anyone tried using 1Meg Pots?

isn't the stock pot 1 meg?
The truth is (from what I know) that vintage tele deluxes etc. always had 1 meg pots installed as a standard for WRHB's !!!

If it sounds dull swapping in a 1M replacement seems like the obvious progression.

Finally came around to changing the pot - the Lee Ranaldo Signature has a 500k pot stock - I changed it to a 1 meg CTS and it improved the sound: The "re-voiced" Lee Ranaldo WRHBs sound warm and even a bit dull - with the 1 meg pot the sound has a bit more bite while still retaining the warmth of the humbuckers.. I definately prefer the 1 meg to 500k in this guitar :-)
