I just picked up my first Squier Jag this weekend. The guy who I picked it up from changed out the neck pickup for a Hot For Jazz from SD that he said was used in the CIJ 62' reissue (he said the pickup itself is from the 90s). He had also changed the volume pot on the rhythm circuit to a 500k, and it sounds amazing. Whenever I use the lead circuit though, the bridge pickup sounds horribly mismatched. I know that some of the brightness of the pickup can be resolved with 500k pots, but the volume from the pickup is soft, and there's not much depth and clarity in it.
The guy I bought it off has a number of offsets, and suggested putting an Antiquity in. I was wondering if someone had a suggestion for a pickup that better matches the Hot pickup in bridge.

Re: Bridge Pickup question
After talking with the guitar seller, he informed me that the pickup is a CIJ pickup from the 90s. It's not the hot one. He also have me that though if I'm unhappy with what's in the neck.

Re: Bridge Pickup question
Have you adjusted your bridge pickups height?
If not, you may be pleasantly surprised at how you can balance out what it is that you are NOT hearing but that you WANT to hear by an adjustment of just a few 64ths here and there! Good luck!

Thanks for the suggestion!
No, I have not adjusted the pickup height yet. I'm going to do a full setup on this guitar as soon as I my ARVI Tremelo Assembly gets here tomorrow (yay trem lock button!)

Re: Bridge Pickup question
Awesome, get ready to make it all sorts of better with that setup!
Start here and go with these numbers as a start, you'll be surprised how almost right on they all are if you do every one of them step by step.

Get yourself a 6" ruler that has 32nd's and 64th's on it and you will be good to go. That ruler changed my life and my guitars life a long time ago.
Good luck brother!

That setup guide is an excellent source. More people should read it.

Re: Bridge Pickup question
I did that setup when I got my new Trem; there is still a volume difference between the pickups but it's a lot better now.
