Is that a vintage toggle tip

Post by 2fLAz » Thu Jul 24, 2014 10:07 am

Hey guys

A mate gave me a toggle tip the other day. He works in a music shop and they have been gathering parts
when a customer was willing to change some parts and they were doing it on there behalf.
The tip is not made of plastic like RI ones, it is more translucent, feel a bit like glass when it falls
on the floor, light can 'go through', and it has aged sort of amber.
It is also thicker than the actual toggle tips.

More than words, here are some pics:

Let me know your thoughts as we're trying to define if this is a vintage one.
Cheers
Fabz

I expect to see it on eBay soon with a BIN price of $129.99, or the equivalent in francs.

WOW
Well if you were to know me or read what I post, I am not like that. It's just pure curiosity because this has supposedly been stocked
for years and how to know if it is vintage. Friend is giving tip to me and guess whatn it ended up on one of my JM to help me restore it.

Anyway, thanks for such a constructive comment. Next time, help yourself and simply insult me straight away you'll gain time !

BTW: it is now 14 years that francs are no longer used... get a grip man !

Yeah I can vouch for Fabz, he's very fairly priced with everything he sells, that's why he now owns shares of my soul because I keep buying stuff.
On a more helpful note, are there any discerning features of vintage toggle switches or can it only be verified if it was pulled off an original? I can't imagine how you'd ever tell...
Cheers
Dave

That ! I have been gathering parts for my '61 and the tip is the basic stuff that Fender sells. Would be glad if I were able to restore that bit on my JM

Aren't the vintage ones made of bakelite?

If yes, there should be some ways to test whether the material is bakelite or some other type of plastic - I remember watching something like that on TV some time ago, they were testing some old bakelite jewelry. Can't remember the specifics, though.

If no, I have no clue how to tell the difference.
We got people playing stringed instruments! It's the end of days.

No insult intended! I apologize if I gave the impression I was criticizing you personally. I was trying to make a joke about how vintage/NOS parts always seem to end up on the bay for inflated prices. It was a stupid joke, and now I am sad. :(

Oh man, sorry :/
It indeed sounded like I was a 'jerk' who was trying to now in order to eventually make silly money out of it
Don't feel bad and I defo apologies for getting it bad !

BTW, my friend has 5 of those (aaaaaaah ahahaa ah aha silly money !!!!) ;)
It's a joke of course, only one and if it is vintage, my mate gave me an awesome present !

A written text on a forum from someone you're not familiar with is often difficult to interpretate.
We all should think of that.
amen.
