Squier Vintage Modified Jazzmaster Special Bridge

Post by kgc-jr » Fri Jun 06, 2014 6:16 pm

I want to replace the bridge on my Squier VM Jazzmaster Special. I believe the stock bridge is a Danelectro U3 adjustable bridge copy. I don't like that the saddle intonation adj. screws sit directly underneath the strings ... which means loosen the string, adj. saddle pos., and then re-tune. I would like to install a Stratocaster hard-tail, top-loading bridge. But I've seen that these bridges come in many different spacing sizes and I'm not sure which size to get.

Any recommendations on the correct spacing/size, or a more suitable bridge? Thanks in advance.

I'm getting ready to put on of these on mine

They can be strung either top loader or string through. I'm going to go top loader until I can get to a drill press and drill the holes for string through.

How did that bridge work out? I'm planning on doing the same thing to my JM Special.

I love that bridge, but it can be bought for about half that amount here: http://www.azguitarparts.com/index.php" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;? ... ucts_id=75
There used to be a guy on ebay selling them for about $13.00, but I just looked and it appears they are gone or raised the price.

Thanks!
Does anyone know if this type of top-loading hard-tail bridge is a fairly straightforward install on the Squier VM JM Special. I haven't received the guitar yet but I am wanting to gather some parts up.
The guitar I've bought is the bs Blonde with black pickguard and my goal is to make it sort of like this.

I have good JM pups I can use if I don't care for the stock ones (although the ones I've heard were very decent) and I intend to get rid of the concentric pots.

Thanks!
