And when the tension springs start to rattle, you can take it all apart, add shrink-wrap tubing, put it back together, heat-shrink the springs and reinstall.percnon wrote:Loctite on the screws, vaseline in the thimbles to stop the posts rattling against them. After that it's all good.

Re: Mastery Issues
Alright I just used some loctite, hopefully this will work.. It just seems like such an inconvenient issue for the money spent on the upgrade.. Don't get my wrong, I love the mastery, its definitely changed my jazzmaster in a great way but this wasn't even a problem with the stock bridge.

I am sure many people tried many things to solve the original bridge problems. (me too...)
But this seems good!
I think it`s necessary to open a website "The Fender McGuyver site"
off topic!!!:
I am not so often here on this site, my english is not the best...
My question: is there a possibility to buy and sell gear on this site?
These days I am selling: A Fender Blues Deluxe amp from 1994/95 (in white rolex with oxblood grill and tilt back legs!, a Tone King Continental amp from 1994 in red/white rolex, and a Mastery bridge (for CIJ`s).) So is there a possibility to put pics on here for buying/selling interesting gear?
It starts... when it begins.

You need to have 50 posts to be able to view the For Sale section.supersonicjazzmaster wrote:Haha! "The Mc Guyver Way"!Guitarmunk wrote:Maybe this info is useful ?

Re: Mastery Issues
Wow. I'm so glad I got a staytrem vs getting a mastery. If I need to put loctite or anything else on my 160 dollar bridge I would return it right away. I've had a staytrem on my jag for about 2 weeks and not one complaint so far . I would recommend Staytrem to anyone out there having bridge problems.

OK, first, full disclosure - I have no idea what is a staytrem bridge and what it looks like.milesofsquares wrote:Wow. I'm so glad I got a staytrem vs getting a mastery. However, if it has any moving parts (adjustment screws) give it some time and those would start to rattle, too. That time may come sooner or later, depending on the quality of manufacture, but it is inevitable.
Thus, Miles, you would not have returned the Mastery right away, because it would not start showing those problems for a year or two (still no such problems over here, but, arguably, I do not play the Jazzmaster that frequently). If you have any problems in the first 2 weeks, it simply means you got a faulty product.
Just my hyper-inflated 2 cents.
We got people playing stringed instruments! It's the end of days.

Re: Mastery Issues
True.
The staytrem is basically a modified mustang bridge. All stainless steel. The intonation screws are held in place by small rubber pieces instead of springs and the height adjustment screws as well. I believe the johnny marr jag comes stock with this bridge as well.. if I'm not mistaken.
I just think staytrem works just as good if not better than mastery for much less $$

Re: Mastery Issues
I discovered the mastery on my partsmaster was rattling in the bridge thimbles. Whenever I'd use the trem it would then cause the bridge to rattle in the thimbles into I pushed the bridge back. It's not as radical as the stock bridge (which is meant to float) but enough to cause problems. I wrapped the posts with one layer of scotch tape and that was enough to make the bridge posts flush with the thimbles.

Anybody notice their strings grinding the chrome off the saddles and exposing brass?

Re: Mastery Issues
Purple loctite worked wonders for me. Mind you, I have three Mastery equipped guitars, and this issue has only occured with one of them.
