Staytrem vs. Mastery or Mastery vs. Staytrem

I have a couple of 9.5 radius staytrem bridges and I'm impressed, I've also got a Mastery on the way so I'll see how that compares.

Whichever one you decide to get rid of, can I have a heads up when you do? I'm putting together a vintage partsmaster Jag and it will need a bridge.

I've got a staytrem on my squier jag, and must say I'm satisfied.

Fixed radius
Minimal moving parts
Flexes with trem use, but always comes back to center
Easy intonation

Colors tone somewhat (operating from the baseline of standard jag bridge, warts and all. I felt the overall brightness decreased a bit with the staytrem, yet the sustain increases a bit, as well.)

Overall, I dig it. It's a helpful piece of gear for when you reach the end of loc-tite maintanence blues.
I would certainly buy another for jag/jazz upgrade. I've not tried a standard mustang bridge, though.

Ah this'll be tremendously easy then. I'm guessing it'll be the staytrem to go, but I could be wrong. Will let you know as and when the mastery arrives. The staytrem is in mint condition, so all is well.

Are there any users here who have replaced an actual Mustang's bridge with a Staytrem or Mastery?

aye, I put a Mastery on my comp mustang - and IMO it's a lot more playable, string spacing is better on the fret board (both E's not so close to the edges), action is better, playability is better. I play the guitar a lot more as a result. I know folks hate on Masterys for the looks and the cost - but to me : they work.

Not saying you couldnt set a guitar up just as well with the OG bridge - but it does take a lot more time to do. Mastery is the quick and easy route.

I was thinking about the Staytrem bridge. If I was to put some kind of bushing around each of the bridge posts so that it didn't rock and it was sitting snugly in the thimbles, would that setup improve the transfer of vibrations to the guitar body thus improving the sound?

In my experience, I had zero improved resonace with a staytrem bridge vs a regular Mustang bridge. The sound altered somewhat, but for me not in a pleasing way.
With the Mastery, the change/ improvement of vibrations is a lot more apparent and in some cases massive; allmost every Jazzmaster/ jaguar I tried it on benefitted from a Mastery.
I had Mastery's before I tried a staytrem bridge; I was rather dissapointed and resold the staytrem.
But that's me; I guess sound perception and what works best for you is rather personal.

Have had a staytrem for a while on my Jag. The Mastery turned up today. The staytrem has been sold.

I thought the Staytrem was really good... But the Mastery is something else.

The Staytrem is good, but the Mastery is better. I don't think I could justify a Mastery for the VM Squiers, but the vintage Jag and Jazzmaster will be getting them.

I just put a Mastery on my '64 jaguar. I am a self-diagnosed cork-sniffing-retro-grouch and I'm sure glad I got rid of that horrible stock bridge.
