Did you put it in the neck or the bridge position? I had to route almost 1/4", IIRC to get it in the neck position.

Re: Jaguar pickups in a Jazzmaster?
Guys,
I'm a lefty that has a great chance of joining a top Beach Boys Tribute band in the Carl Wilson (Jaguar) spot. I have asked Matt and the guys at MJT to make one for me. They cannot get the lefty plates or lefty tremolo. I am thinking of getting the lefty Squier JAZZMASTER, and getting a custom pickguard made. It has the lefty tremolo, so I've got that covered. I will just have to (hopefully) find the lefty chrome plates. Now, here is a question for tdbajus and mbene085. You guys put the Jag pickups in a Jazzmaster, right? How did it sound? Does it sound anything like an actual Jaguar? I know that I'll have to get the correct value pots, and switches..but is the sound pretty convincing?
Thanks fellas.
Tommy

Won't sound like a Jaguar.
The Jaguar's 24" scale length makes a profound difference to the sound, string/pick response and overall feel of the instrument.

OK, would a conversion neck help? Does anybody know if the conversion neck is shorter than a Strat/Jazzmaster?

If you have matching Jag pickups and Jag pot and cap values you will get the same sound. Don't chase the neck swap, save your money.
Position of the pickup to the bridge distance (relative) to the scale can change tone some ... Switch a Strat from neck to middle pickup and you'll hear a position tone change as Strats generally have the same spec pickups in both places. However, you can twist the tone knob some and be there. I have an Esquire Tele and I can fake a Tele neck pickup by using the knobs.
Do your tone tests and adjust pickup heights until you nail what you want.
Playing technique along with crafty amp settings are the remaining big pieces of the puzzle.

Re: Jaguar pickups in a Jazzmaster?
I have a Jaguar pickup under the neck position of one of my Jazzmasters - It sounds more like a Jaguar than a Jazzmaster by my estimation, though it's not a total 100% match to my own actual Jaguar. I'm wondering if some Jazzmasters have shallower pickup routes, if some people need to hog out additional wood.

I have Jaguar pickups with a 4-way switch and it is wonderful.
Since 90% of tone is in your hands, I wouldn't worry about people in the audience throwing tomatoes because your neck is 1.5" inches longer.

Curtis Novak just posted pictures of some JM form factor Jag pickups on Instagram.

I wonder if you could squeeze two jag pickups in one JM housing...marqueemoon wrote: ↑Tue Sep 03, 2019 8:36 amCurtis Novak just posted pictures of some JM form factor Jag pickups on Instagram.
It would be fun to hear how series/parallel would work.

Re: Jaguar pickups in a Jazzmaster?
Probably could since they're even thinner physically than Strat pickups, but my guess is parallel would be dinky and useless (then again I don't even like it on most PAF hum buckers.)tdbajus wrote: ↑Tue Sep 03, 2019 10:06 amI wonder if you could squeeze two jag pickups in one JM housing...marqueemoon wrote: ↑Tue Sep 03, 2019 8:36 amCurtis Novak just posted pictures of some JM form factor Jag pickups on Instagram.

Re: Jaguar pickups in a Jazzmaster?
That's weird, becayse every humbucker I have heard has a meatier sound in parallel than it does split- I'm super intrigued by how two Jag PUs right next to each other in parallel would sound. I wired up one of the Rio Grande tele deluxe pickups for series/split/parallel and all three sounded pretty fantastic. I'm not willing to route out my '63-'64 JM to try it out, thoughDanley wrote: ↑Tue Sep 03, 2019 10:19 amProbably could since they're even thinner physically than Strat pickups, but my guess is parallel would be dinky and useless (then again I don't even like it on most PAF hum buckers.)tdbajus wrote: ↑Tue Sep 03, 2019 10:06 amIt would be fun to hear how series/parallel would work.marqueemoon wrote: ↑Tue Sep 03, 2019 8:36 amCurtis Novak just posted pictures of some JM form factor Jag pickups on Instagram.

Re: Jaguar pickups in a Jazzmaster?
I associate parallel humbuckers with a nasal sort of honk that is like a cartoon version of funk tone. I typically far prefer to have just a single split vs. parallel, but it could be dependent on pickup/type. I have a Rose WRHB clone (that's just two Fender singles joined in one, in essence) ; that pickup is only barely more powerful in dual coil than it is split (with a lot of it is masked by the highs being subtracted/comb filtering?) Parallel probably gives a similar overall output *on paper* as either coil in isolation, but just sounds really wimpy and unusable in practice, so I may be curious if anyone else has a similar result with a "dual single."

Not the case for these bad girls:

It would be swell if they made them to fit in a JM.

What you're describing sounds like the coils have been wired out of tune.Danley wrote: ↑Tue Sep 03, 2019 12:54 pmI associate parallel humbuckers with a nasal sort of honk that is like a cartoon version of funk tone. Nasal honk = the sound of out of phase.

This makes a lot of sense
