Old Jazz Pickguard on a AVRI Jazzmaster?
Anyone try putting an old vintage pickguard on a newer AVRI Jazzmaster? Does it fit? Do the holes line up? I haven't counted the screw holes yet, just wondering if any one tried this.
Since the AVRI series is based on a 62' it should right? Don't know how close they matched them up.

a vintage guard should fit on an AVRI with no modifications.

they *should* fit, but somtimes the inevitable shrinkage of the celluloid material has just gone too far. i bought an early pre-cbs tort guard to put on a '59 body, but there's was no way in hell that thing would fit without drilling any new holes. i guess it had been left unattached to a guitar for too long.
however, it did fit my CIJ like a glove, and i have another pre-cbs guard on my MIJ.

good point there, Jonas...the shrinkage always has to be factored in...every single vintage guard I've owned had it.

to be fair though, i think most shrunken guards can be made to fit, if you screw all the screws half way in at first, and then tighten each one little by little.

i think it has something to do with the fact that celluloid is dissolved in acetone. as the the acetone evapourates it leaves the material harder and more brittle and it also shrinks, and this is a process that never stops. it's similar to what happens to nitrocellulose laquer.

2nd that. The material is actually probably more like a paint than anything, and continues to "dry" over time.
