Red Tortise Shell Pickguard For Black Jazzmaster! Help!

Post by Daysleeper » Mon Apr 09, 2007 5:38 pm

I am in desperate need to get a Red Tortiseshell pickguard for my Black 2005 USA Jazzmaster reissue. I hate the brown Tortise shell guard that comes standard with it. Some shops sell the red Tortise shell guards for the Japanese reissues but I cannot seem to find a nice bright Red Tortise Shell guard to fit my USA Model. Anyone know where I can get one? Perhapes even one custom made for a good price? Any advice would be much appreciated.

Here's what i need it to look like (Click on the image for a larger view):

hey (Jeff I assume?) welcome to the board.. I moved the thread to tech/setup, you'll have a better chance of getting some answers here

here's a recent thread that sort of touched on this..

Not to hijack the thread, but the Jazzmaster you linked to has the bendiest trem arm I've ever seen.

Back on topic, the Allparts guards in that other thread don't look too bad, although I've never seen one personally, but in that picture that looks like the closest repro guard (to the vintage look) I've seen.

It's not uncommon to find vintage tort guards for sale. I don't know what your budget is but most people seem to think they're the best-looking ones. Certainly the guard on the guitar you linked to doesn't look anything other than vintage tort to me. As the other thread alludes to, when buying an aftermarket guard you pretty much have to settle for bright red or dark brown .. even the Fender custom shop doesn't get it right.

here's mine: http://public.fotki.com/sauerkraut/gear/img1726.html

It's got an Allparts guard. It's not very accurate but probably one of the best options.

though there is some yellow on my guard  (you can't see much of it in the picture) I wish allparts guards had some more yellow like the old ones.

Hey Thanks Sauerkraut! I just placed an order with Allparts, there Red Tortise Guard looks good enough to me. Your's looks great! Your Jazzmaster is a american one right?

Yeah, I love the vintage ones too, but I can't justify spending $250-$350 for something I'm gonna beat the hell out of.

I don't know why I didn't check with AllParts in the first place. Thanks everyone, hopefully this guard will fit my guitar. I bought one before that only fit the MIJ models.

Here is a link to the picture all parts has up for their toroise Mustang guard - it actually looks pretty good in that photo- way better than most repros I have seen.  I would even go as far as to say I might confuse that for vintage if I saw one on stage.  Hmmmm.....I wonder how they look up close - I wonder if it's mint sandwhiched between the layers of tort like the originals...

Got a bad feeling the Allparts Guard isn't gonna fit my American Vintage 2005 Jazzmaster. :(

Oh well I guess I can send it back if it doesn't
