Nice. Tim's pickups deserve to be on the list with links to sounds. Good guy, good pickups. Haven't seen him around these parts in a while, but he's sure got fans in more than a few of us.

After re-reading this thread, listening to the clips and then calling and talking to Rick Kelly at Carmine Street guitars, I got a cyber Monday deal on a set of Duncan Antiquities v1.

If they're good enough for Nels, Rick and Mickey Baker, well... :D They're going into Nelvis.

Oh, and yes, this thread is a treasure!!! :-* :-* :-* :-* :-* :-* :-*

He moved recently and I think he was trying to get that all settled down. I hit him up about a set of pickups in the middle of that and had to wait until he was able to set up his winder. That was at the beginning of summer I think.

BTW today (1/5/18) I ran a new five JM pickup comparison. You can find it at

This thread is amazing!

There's a new source for (quite cheap) handwound JM pickups in Europe:
http://www.qpickups.com/guitar-pickups/jazzmaster

Maybe someone wants to make a review of these at some point?
I don't have a set myself (not looking to replace my Lollars)

I Bought a set of Q_pickups vintage style Jazzmaster pickups in the beginning of last year for my Squier JMJM and I really love them . I payed only 60 euros for the set and it's amazing .

So I ordered him some Jaguar Custom pickups for my CIJ and he made them for me pretty quickly . I love them too !!! It's very empressive. I also payed 60 Euros for the set .

On the 3 songs of this EP, you can hear the Jazzmaster Q_pickups , I used them for all the guitar tracks : https://ericinthekitchen.bandcamp.com/album/april-ep

And on the 2 first songs of this one , you can hear the Custom Jaguar Q_pickups : https://ericinthekitchen.bandcamp.com/album/may-ep

Now . I'm on a Partsmaster Project , I just bought a classic 60's lacquer neck . I will buy a body next month and I really think of ordering the new Vintage correct Jazzmaster Q_pickups set . It's more expensive ( 100 euros I think, so less expensive than anything else ) but I think it will be awesome .

Thanks for the links! Sounds great

A friend of mine has a pair of the vintage correct ones in his Jazzmaster (paid 90 euros incl. shipping to Berlin). The Q Pickups were a clear improvement on the Japanese stock pickups, but I don't know how they compare to other JM pups.

I didn't do A/B but I'm used to play with a friend who has a AV65 Jazzmaster and I think my SJMJM with Q_pickups sounds at least as good as his AV65 .

And I have a Squier Jaguar with Fender Pure vintage 65 pickups and I like a lot more the Jaguar Q_pickups ...

Were any of them noiseless?

Wow a lot of work went into all that. Will take some time to check out all your samples.
One brand you missed: Kinmans.
They are the only ones I could find that was noise canceling (they are), and drop right in with no modification to the guitar.

Yes the kinman set seems to be great. But as I don't have this amp anymore and have given my Jazzmaster AVRI to my son the results would be skewed.

Yes - I'm interestied in this guy - great prices and he does CBS spec Strat pickups with plain enamel wire and double dipped lacquer as opposed to wax potting on them so in theory he can do me a set of seventies era Jazzmaster pickups. I've heard some demos on YouTube of CBS Jazzmasters and I really like how they sound.

Demo was useful! I think I liked the Woodchime models the most.

Fantastic resource! Thanks for this. I have a set of Heavy Air Auroras in one of my Jazzmasters that are worth checking out. Really great pickups out of the UK.

I didn't notice Benson pickups in here anywhere. I just ordered a set, and they were quite affordable for custom handwound pickups at $130 for the set(8.5k neck, 9.7k bridge). I haven't found sound clips of Benson JM pups anywhere, though there's plenty of John's other offerings on YT. John is also a pleasure to work with, very eager to help you get what you want. I'll try to get a recording, though it'll likely be with my Google Pix-tato.

May be useful to have a list of all the Fender ones (from another recent thread) here too ....

They keep reformatting the JM pickups in P-90 or Strat directions, but those huge covers are incompatible with a lot of guitar configurations, so they limit potential new guitar design.
At the same time, you can fit all sorts of different pickups under a JM cover, so they could add some new tonal options to the JM platform.
Until you mentioned it I hadn't thought about just how many recent Fender JM pickup variations there are. For a while they were putting the AV65 ones into most new JM models, but now they just keep coming up with new JM-style pickups for some reason ...
AV62 0054444000 / 0054443000
AV65 0094012000 / 0094013000
V-Mod (Am Pro) 7709840000 / 7709839000
Classic Player 0076313000 / 0076314000
MIJ/CIJ - how many variations ?
VM Squier ... DD JM-101
Mascis Squier .. p/n ?
60th Anniv Classic .. p/n? ... 'Classic Series ‘60s Single-Coil Jazzmaster'
Am Performer .. p/n ? .. 'Yosemite Jazzmaster Single-Coil'

Did I miss any (other than the more obscure non-JM-style like actives) ?
