J Mascis Jazzmaster - Bright Bridge Pickup?
I've had this Jazzmaster for awhile, and one thing that has sort of annoyed me is the insanely bright bridge pickup. It is almost to the point of being unplayable. Little sustain and little life.
Any recommendations for replacement pickups? I was thinking of going with Novaks or Lollars or these:

I just bought a set of pups from The pickup wiz. Preliminary testing seems good, but I haven't got to really play through them yet. However, if you should decide to go his route. email him about wanting to buy a set outside of ebay, and he'll give you a better deal. Plus, this way will allow you to order the pups to whatever spec you like.
Mine are alinco 3 with formvar wire. Neck is 8.2 and bridge is 8.75. Though, I asked for 8 and 8.5 ohms. Not a big deal though.
Also, if you bridge pu is the problem, why not just replace it? I'd suggest testing the output of the neck and getting someone to make you a good match for it. Un less that is part of the problem. Good luck!

I finally finish building a guitar, go to play it, and then remember, "oh yeah, that's right. I suck at playing... Why did I build another guitar again?"

On the reccomendation of others I just got a Curtis Novak p90 for the bridge postion and one of his regular jazzmaster pickups for the neck. Haven't installed them yet but I'm expecting great things.

Yeah, if you could PM me and give me your opinion once they are installed, that would be wonderful.

had novaks, lollars, and duncans in my mascis and i settled on lollar vintage pups for my taste. the OG pickups in the guitar are garbage! strat pickups on jazzmaster bodies! very thin and shrill.
i have a lollar p90 bridge for sale if ur interested

One thing you need to think about also, 1 meg pots make guitars insanely bright.
My tele sounds like a mud machine after playing my jazzmaster, you may want to consider changing pot values.

I'll second Dug's idea. Changing pots is good and relatively inexpensive way to go.
Should you decide to upgrade the pickups though, I can recommend the Novak JM-V. It's a really nice and balanced sounding pickup and it can certainly hold its own compared to vintage PUs - that said, it's slightly different sounding, but the difference is very neglectible if you don't have a vintage guitar/pickup for comparison.
AVRI pickups are alright too if you can get a pair for cheap (certainly better than the CIJs!), but, IMHO, you might as well spend a little more and get the novaks while you're at it.

Well I got the Curtis Novak pickups installed and I have to say they do not disappoint. Probably the nicest sounding pickups I have ever played. I told him I was going for a Weezer Blue album tone, and Curtis really delivered.
