What to do about rust.
I've noticed a while ago a little rust showing up on one or two of the strings on my guitar and a bit on the bridge. I figured I would take care of it some other time.
Well a couple of shows later I noticed it was getting a bit worse, but I packed it up and headed off to college. Taking it out to play now though I notice that a bit more of the bridge has rusted, a lot of the screws on the body are rusted or are starting to rust and even the tuners are rusting where the string is wound around them.
I know the bridge and the tuners I can probably give a decent rubbing down to get rid of, but should I replace the screws for my fretboard? Like, will it cause a problem for the body of the guitar if the screws are rusty?
I don't care about my guitar looking nice or anything, I just don't want it to break on me.

If it's a Jag or a JM a rusty bridge is actually a good thing because it keeps buzzing and other sundry annoyances in check. I wouldn't worry about any rust in a guitar, it will always happen sooner or later. If you don't like rust I imagine a relicer might swap you for a new part.InsertNameHere wrote:I've noticed a while ago a little rust showing up on one or two of the strings on my guitar and a bit on the bridge. I only ever worried about rust on one of my Jaguars....but it was a 1969 420G, which is more of a concern. Rust on a car is not really seen as relicing when it comes to MOT time
Okay okay, sorry this was pointless and no help what-so-ever.

You have screws holding the fretboard? What type of guitar is it?

Rust is just part of time. Seriously though, Nevr-Dull works like a charm.

A very nice trick to remove rust:
Soak some aluminium foil (the one from the kitchen will do) in water for a couple of minutes and then rub it over the rusty parts. I once removed heaps of rust from a guitar I bought in a pawn shop with this method, it works great.
At the end, just wipe the aluminium/rust particle sauce clean and voilà!

Cocacola and steel wool. Universal remedy for removing rust and leaving the metal intact. Rinse after washing!! Cold clean water to clean off the coke.

LOL! But I wouldn't spray a guitar with WD40.
