What does the 56K do at the tone pot of the Jaguar?

What does the 56K do at the tone pot of the Jaguar?

Post by ohm-men » Sun Feb 11, 2007 11:16 am

Hi All,

I'm gonna try some other PU possibilities with the HägMaster (Hagström II body with JM neck and Hardware) I got some Jag Pu's in my spares box and I want to try them.
But looking at the schematic I saw the 0.1 treble bleed cap with a 56K resistor. So what exactly does the 56K resitor do and Is it really necesary?
I switched a lot of Pu's in different Jag's so far but never came across this resitor.

Thanks!

It keeps the treble in your sound as you roll of the volume. To be honest, its one of the first things i rip out,i also add another 0.01 so i have a 0.2 tone cap,the stock jaguar is too harsh and this warms it up quite a bit.
Is it necessary ? well its a matter of choice really.

EDit:I'm not sure now what it does,i thought you meant on the vol pot in which case it would do what i said, but i just noticed its on the tone pot so I'm not sure dude.,sorry.

i don´t think the question was "what does the treble bleed do?" but rather "why do i need a 56k resistor with the treble bleed cap?"

me, i have no idea, maybe it keeps it from being too bright...? try both with and without it, and see which you like best.

Thanks guys,

You both answered my question(s).
I'll try both and see what I like.
So, instead of coupling two 0.01 caps, I can try a 0.022 or a 0.033. I'll just will see if I need it.
I don't want it to be too harsh, although the HagMaster has a 25.5 Jazzmaster neck. It's just an experiment since it now sounds just like a JM with the JM pups....

Well for a start i messed up my post, wrong cap values etc. :-[

.01 Jaguar regular circuit
.022 is what some strats use
.003 is what the thin switch on a Jag uses.
.047 is mustang,strat etc
.02 Jazzmaster rhythm circuit.
.03 Jazzmaster lead circuit.
So long as you wire caps in parallel the values add up and its fine.
Try different variations,heres some ideas

Wire some alligator clips to the pots and then you can A/B different cap values while your playing to see what you like,i never done this but it's a really good idea.

Thats about all i know about caps dude, hope my ramblings help  :)

I use a bleeder cap on my JM vol pot I can turn the sound down and get a little thinner sound, I used one half the value of the jaguar strangle switch.
It's not about the gear! It's about you, your hands, your imagination, your feelings.
