Strings for a JM?

Post by RumorsOFsurF » Fri Feb 09, 2007 9:18 am

Any suggestions on string gauge for a JM?  I usually run 10-46's on my Teles, and 10-42's on my $trat.  I was thinking 11's for the JM.  Rounds of course...

yannis, what brand of 11-52s are you using? most 11 sets are 11-48 or 11-50...

GHS nickel rollerwounds:  10,13,17,28,40,50.  I buy 'em in bulk and make my own sets.

I use what Yannis uses. I haven't really looked around to see if any other strings suit me better, as these are fine.

I do have .010s on some of my other guitars, but all my JMs are .011s or will be once they're properly together and set up.

10-52,i was usin 12-56 but i changed back,56 was cool  but it made me feel like ii was a bass player after a while, plus availability is an issue, and 10-52 is common and most stores stock them.
Sure, the plain strings feel like cotton but i figure the amount of time i spend  playin any string is going to end up feeling like that.

For me, 0.11-0.52 offer the best balance on a Jazzmaster. both round or flat. Alhtough a 0.12 round nickel set plays rather well too.

For me, .010-.046 on a Jazzmaster didn't work. I currently use .011-.050 (GHS Boomers) and like it so far. I feel anything above that would be too heavy for my taste. It also depends on your playing style and the kind of music you play.

I use Dean Markley Blue Steels, Jazz guage which is 0.11-0.52.  I think I'm gonna go up to Ernie Ball Beefy Slinkys though because they're guaged 0.11-0.54, which sounds like a better idea because I tune down a whole step.

I use 10-52 flatwounds. I like the D'addario Chrome 11s, too.

I prefer the 10 for leads, but the 11s do add some depth to my sound. Anyway, I almost always use the chromes. I don't care for roundwounds anymore.
