Do you put tape around the bridge posts?

nah i didnt have any problems up until my trem broke

This is kind of what I was driving at above. If the posts need taped, the guitar isn't set up properly IMO. Some kind of lube or other on the nut is a good idea too I think. I use a sharp #2 pencil and basically just color the slots. Oiling or otherwise lubricating the bridge where the strings make contact with the saddles would be bad.
Bigger in sum than parts.

I use the pencil trick too.
