I’m going to order a set of these for my Jazzmaster. Spoke to the him via Instagram earlier and he’s suggested 5859s or woodies. Both sound great going by his descriptions, but guess just wondering if anybody has tried them both? I have an AO with the PV65s that came stock currently, I love them but a wee bit thin sometimes, a wee bit muddy and boomy and lacking in articulation sometimes though. So guess I’m after a better version of the traditional Jazzmaster sound haha. I play country, surf, jazzy, ambient type stuff through a twin reverb usually.
Speaking of Instagram!

Oft! I hadn’t seen that! Appreciate it man. Option paralysis, the final hurdle haha

Sorry i can’t compare, as i only have the Woodies, however the main difference between the 5859 and Woody set is the magnet.

Woodies use A2 magnets which - all else being equal - will give a more rounded tone with less treble attack than the A5 magnets in the 5859.

From your description of playing style, i reckon the Woody set might suit you better, although i have no doubt the 5859 set is great too.

Will all of Sunday's Jazzmaster pickups fit under stock AVII JM pickup covers?

I've had no problem putting them under both AVRI/AO/AVII (Pure Vintage) covers and Classic Vibe covers (once I unglued the CV pickups).

Got my iola's installed in the JMJM last night. I still need to balance them a bit, but my first impression is WOW! The bridge pickup is actually useable for what I do, which is a first for JM pickups.

I definitely needed more foam for height adjustment as compared to the deeper JMJM stock pickups.

Just wanted to chime in. I installed a set of Fat52s in my Ocean Turquoise Partsmaster. They replaced a set of PV65s. I got them because of the 1meg pots in the guitar and, just like described, they tame the icepick sound that the 65s initially had. The Sundays are expressive and warm, exactly what I was looking for. So glad I purchased them.

BIG fan of the bridge pickup of the Iola set.

Tim wound me my favorite pickup set of all time. The bridge pickup is his 52 formula with tele baseplate that is just the perfect bridge single coil. A bit chunkier with a a little more authority than a standard JM bridge, but still spanky and dynamic. The neck is a standard alnico v JM pickup that sounds so full clean.

I have ordered a set of Iolas late September. The package was late and I almost gave up on it, assuming it’s been lost. So I decided that I would probably request a refund soon, and then the 63’ Lollars caught my eye.

Of course, the Iolas have showed up on the tracking site once they shipped the Lollars. Looks like I will end up with 2 sets, and I am not sure which one I should start with.

Put the SHW in. I recently put some Lollars in a friends' 90s MIJ Jazzmaster. They sounded really good but kinda more compressed and flat compared to the SHW Iolas.

I received the Lollars first and the Sundays got stock in sorting somewhere again. I installed the Lollars for now, and I am really amazed at the difference between them and the stock Pure Vintage 66s from AM VII. Love Lollars. I guess I will save the Sundays for my next project or something. I wasn't going to get another Jazzmaster though. Time will tell.

I have those in a MIJ and they're really nice.

i finally ordered a set of Iola's for myself. 8) merry xmas to me :)

Also, $115 shipped for a set of high quality handwound pickups is kinda crazy. Sale ends 12/31
