I snagged some of the threaded mag ones for my Squier XII, major major improvement over the insanely hot stock pickups. Super impressed, not even just “for the price”

Wait. Tell me more.

Are they genuinely threaded magnets, as opposed to threaded steel screws with bar magnets underneath? Do you have any photos of the construction/magnets under the covers?

Dang it, I'd 100% have gone for threaded if they were in fact threaded magnets. I just assumed they had to be screws with bar magnets (ie traditional PAF style humbuckers), since threaded magnets are more expensive to source than rods.

Oh well. Still happy with the specs of the ones I ordered, since the construction/wind will put them in a different category from the other pickups I currently use.

Wish I had taken photos, but they’re definitely magnets! I’ve got another set, the 12 pole ones, at home. I’ll snap some photos.

From EYGuitar???

I have to put in another order since I'm out of 9.5" bridges (HOLY CRAP, THEY'RE SELLING FAST!) so maybe I can squeeze a set in. 🤔

And maybe a set of these? You know, for science. I've been curious about them, but haven't seen a mention of them yet. I'd love to see the underside, to know how easy it'd be to make them splittable.

If you want me to order them for ya with my next bridge order I'll throw that in there. I wouldn't be surprised if the underside looks like the WRHB wiring-wise.

I don't have anything to put them in myself, and stock they're probably too hot for me. I'm just curious, since they look cool.

I'm kinda in the same boat. I have more pickup sets than guitars. I may have some listed on Reverb eventually. 🫠

Mine just came in the mail and I plan to install them in the next few days. I got the 2 wire (single wire with shielding) version. Does that mean I treat the single wire as the ‘hot’ wire and the shielding as the ground?

Yes.

Yes.
Thanks. I suppose that's probably pretty obvious given there's only one wire, but ya never know. My rhythm circuit is not wired up, so I just grounded the shielding wires to the big middle prong on the selector switch since the pickup wires were soldered right there. Seems to be fine?

Well, apparently all these years all I wanted was a jazzblaster. I'm really happy with these pickups, especially given the price. I could have saved myself a lot of time and money if I'd bought these a few years ago. They're not as rich as my Novak JM-HCs, but they're also nowhere near as microphonic, either.

I think I might have missed it somewhere, but are the EY pickups that *look* like WRHBs (large metal covers) actually bar magnet humbuckers? as in, the JM cover ones are the only way to get that config with magnetic polepieces?
Talking about this

EDIT argh nevermind, I hadn't found this, which is what I was looking for:

For the past year I have been flirting with the WRHB idea, mostly because it is the last pickup type that I wanted to try in a JM, not because I have a real need for it, just more so for curiosity’s sake.

So asking all that have experience, how good are these compared to a good set of WRHB or nice humbucker pickups?

Am looking to try the adjustable magnet version with just 1 wire.

I keep seeing people say they are “great for the money” (around $80 for a set), but for like $20-50 more I could get Q Pickups or Sunday Handwound to wind me REALLY nice (albeit not WRHB) pickups that are great regardless of the money.

Like would you be happy if they were twice the price or what would you like improved etc?

What are your metrics for "a REALLY great pickup"?
