Squier CV JM trem arm too tight in collet, hard to turn

So I’m having the opposite of the jazzmaster floppy trem arm problem. I put the trem arm in my Squier CV JM for the first time, pushed it all the way in and it stays put but it’s really hard to rotate and it makes a grinding noise when turned. My VM jag’s not like this at all. It’s trem arm stays where I leave it but moves smoothly and is quiet. I’m guessing the collet is too tight but I’m total noob with working on guitars. BTW I’m not talking about pushing down/pulling up on the arm. That works fine. Any help?
