Will a JMJM Pickguard fit on a MIM Jazzmaster?

Post by marginwalker » Wed Jun 24, 2020 11:22 am

I've got a CME exclusive player series Jazzmaster that's routed for the standard jazzmaster bridge post spacings. Will the JMJM pickguard bridge post holes line up without any modifications to the guitar? I'd really love a gold pickguard for this IBM finish

Ah ok yeah that's what I figured, the adjustomatic bridge might have a different spacing than the jazzmaster bridge

It might! I put an AVRI mint guard on my JMJM when I had it and didn't have to make any adjustments to the guard to make it fit. By that logic I would think that because many of the MIM offsets use the same routing as the American ones (aka I could have easily put that same pickguard on a the surf green 60s MIM reissue JM) it should not be an issue. If anything I don't think it would be the spacing but rather the size of the holes themselves. I never tried putting that anodized guard on another guitar but I've often contemplated buying one and putting it on my Daphne Blue 60th anniversary JM because I was positive it would fit.

Yeah I'm pretty sure the USA guards DO generally fit the MIM and MIC guitars, but since the JMJM has an Adjust-O-Matic you may run into problems.

I ended up finding a shop on Reverb that only sells relict anodized pickguards for sale and got them to sell me one pre-relic treatment and it happened to have the 2 7/8" spacing so I lucked out! Now I just need to find a wiring harness, or at least all the components for one that I can solder together myself. My guitar came stock with the series/parallel 4-way switch but I'd like to go back to the more traditional rhythm circuit switching scheme

I've never seen a gold guard on IBM. Post a pic when you're done, if you don't mind.
I bet it would look great!
