Which switch / contact spray (UK)?

Got a really noisy / mis-functioning volume control. Question: is there any advantage of taking the pickguard apart and taking the volume pot out and spraying it? Or will it do the same spraying it from the top of the JM (without removing the pickguard)?

The best way to clean scratchy pots is absolutely to lift the scratchplate. There's a little 'conduit' on the pot to enable lubrication - the small indent above the middle lug in this picture:



Admittedly a bit of a chore, but if a job's worth doing....
