G&L Fallout USA vs Tribute body carve different?

Post by sgarnett » Mon Feb 03, 2020 2:28 pm

I just discovered a G&L Tribute Fallout locally. I mostly loved it, but the body carve seemed kind of blocky, and the forearm carve angle seemed more Strat-like than offset-like. I've never seen a USA Fallout in person, but in photos the forearm carve looks more Jazzmasterish, and more smoothly blended into the body than the Tribute version. Are they really different, or is that just misleading in the photos?

The shape of the forearm carve is a big deal to me because of a nerve issue in my right forearm. On my "Road Worn" Strat, since the finish is already breached anyway, I do a little extra sanding on the "worn" spot at the edge where the forearm carve blends into the top to make it feel just a little bit more JM-like. I can't (yet) bring myself to do that to a guitar in nice condition though, even a less-expensive import.

And yeah, I am looking at Jazzmasters too. The body shape is very comfortable, but the Fallout is kinda calling me ....
