Post by soggy mittens » Fri May 24, 2019 2:58 am

Could someone please post some pics of the wiring, I can't find any online thanks.

apparently this photo is same config as the Lee Ranaldo wiring but can't see what those caps are or anything really....

Interesting to see what the difference between the two sig wirings are as well....

I think the difference to the picture you shared is that it has a treble bleed. Both SY guitars are literally just pickup to pot to jack.

thank you, above and beyond!

yeah wow no caps just a 500k doing it all.

reason I requested is because I have a jazzy set up similar but with pure vintage pickups and a 1meg vol pot. Tried 500k in there twice and they just make those pickups sound yuck, even tried several different caps; 22, 33, and higher. Now I'm thinking maybe I should switch the pickups with one of my other jazzmasters that has the SD Antiquity IIs, the pure vintage do seem really bright comparatively.

I don't know exactly what makes the pickups sound "yuck", but if you mean *still too bright*, then try going down to 250k. There's a chance the neck pickup will be too muddy, but I personally think 500k is still too bright for a vintage-wound JM bridge pickup. Of course, the other option is to have a tone knob (hidden under the control plate or otherwise) so you can dial in the perfect tone.

yeah without the treble pot it was nasty, we tried to sub in a resistor but it still sounded too harsh. the lower pots just roll off too much high and add mud and that makes the bridge pickup sound tinny. It has been a nightmare to try and get this to work, currently the treble pot and 33cap is taped under the guard. Still not 100% happy with it compared to my stock jazzy with Antiquity IIs. I am getting the feeling that the pickups are particular to this configuration, that the Antiquity IIs just work well without the 33cap and treble pot and the pure vintage just don't.

Makes sense. I do feel like the pure vintage pickups are less than optimal because the windings and construction aren't customized for each position - I think they're basically the same pickup but RWRP. So getting a good tone on each pickup with the same volume/tone settings is difficult. I realize they're supposed to be vintage accurate, but in an ideal world, you shouldn't have to choose between a muddy neck and an tinny bridge. The Antiquity IIs have a slightly hotter bridge if I recall, and I think they are wound hotter overall to better match the standard 1meg pots - although 500k is probably more ideal.

Anyway, hopefully the Antiquity II experiment works well for you.
