Affecting open chords? I'm not entirely sure what you mean by open chords, but I assume you mean like G, D & F, right? If so, I really just can't imagine how this a bridge problem. Keep in mind that once you get that far away from the bridge, the *nut* has the biggest impact on the string spacing. As I mentioned, a picture would be ideal, but in lieu of that, does it look to you like the nut slots are cut too close to the edge of the fretboard?
I can easily see a scenario where someone goes into a Guitar Center, buys a pre-slotted Graph Tech nut (usually 1-11/16" for Fender) off the shelf without researching string spacing of an MIJ guitar (<42mm), and this problem happens. I hope that the Staytrem works well for you, but with the information you've provided, I just don't see how it will change anything.

Got the staytrem and all problems were solved.
I’ve got to say after playing the Marr bridge for a while the staytrem has it beat. Overall my MIJ Jazzmaster feels way sturdier with staytrem and eliminated all the bridge noise I was hearing even with the Marr bridge. Also the string spacing issue was corrected with the

Well I wouldn't have guessed that would have fixed the string spacing, but then again I had a feeling I wasn't understanding the problem correctly anyway. At any rate, I'm glad to hear it's working correctly now so you can get on with enjoying your guitar rather than becoming a collector of bridges I have two Staytrem bridges myself, and they are very well made so I think you settled on a good one.

I'm seeing this a bit too late. I'm wondering if you are using the MIJ trem plate (50mm) with the StayTrem (53mm) or did you switch trem plates too?

This guitars long been a finished project and plays fantastic. I ended up getting a avri trem plate and a stay trem 7.25 bridge with the plastic bushings. This guitar is my current favorite actually prefer it over my early 2000’s custom shop Jazzmaster.
