Trem Tips - fitting...
What am I missing here?
I ordered a variety of tremolo arm tips for my JM from WD Music... they are all too big and just slide right off. Are there actually different ones for JM vs. Strat? They look the same... originally I thought they would all be threaded, but nope... the Fender and Staytrem ones just slide off with a lot of elbow grease, but are obviously way tighter.
Certainly folks don't glue these on, do they? Seems like it'd be hard to glue plastic to metal and get it to stick...
Do I need to order something else?

It seems that there are a number of undocumented variations in arms/tips. So you may be better off with a whole new arm (that is known to work with your particular trem). Plus you didn't specify which JM arm you have, so even someone who has swapped tips wouldn't know if their experience applied to your situation.

You could ask Staytrem which tips fit their arms ... or maybe which other arms may fit their collets ? ...

But maybe others have had success gluing on new tips, as you suggested ?

Re: Trem Tips - fitting...
I had an issue with a tip coming loose. I put a dab of silicone caulk on a toothpick & dabbed it inside the tip at the base, slid the tip on, & secured it with painters to the arm. Next day I removed the tape & rocked out. It has been this way for a few years & hasn’t came loose. I forgot I even did it until I read the post.
Don’t put too much caulk in there or it will force the tip off when you tried to slide it on. Silicone caulk is a great adhesive & will stick to anything but dirt & water. If it’s good enough to hold down countertops, then it’s good enough for a trem tip.

It just seems strange to me that there doesn't seem to be an differentiation when they sell them (strat vs JM/Jag, that is) - the ones on the AVRI and Staytrem are on there TIGHT tight, but these ones from WD are almost rattly loose. I can't tell if there is threading in there or not. In a different thread someone said the ones from Stewmac fit the Staytrem/AVRI arms, but they have been backordered on the mint tips for a while now.

Sounds like you bought metric (5mm) tips that will only fit Squiers and Japanese Fenders; the US-spec arms are about 4.5mm.

Thanks, this is good info. Measured the original US arm and it was 4.5, the staytrem is slightly bigger and I measure it right at 5mm, but it might actually be slightly under what the JP ones are, I guess?
I'll just wait for the stewmac stuff to get back in stock since those are confirmed to work.

That WD site says "5.2 MM internal hole - fits US or metric arms." Confusing.

I always thought Staytrem's US and metric arms had different diameters, but apparently not, looks like it's just the collet that's different. I just measured my metric Staytrem arm and it's 5mm.BobL wrote: ↑Sat Apr 20, 2019 10:58 amThanks, this is good info. Strange indeed, but I know nothing about Strat arms, really.timtam wrote: ↑Sat Apr 20, 2019 4:54 pmThat WD site says "5.2 MM internal hole - fits US or metric arms." Confusing.
