D’addario- horrible for offsets? Just me?

D'addario's regular XL break like mad on my offsets and pretty frequently on my other guitars. Usually within a week, one snaps. No, it isn't from burrs or rubbing on the trem screws. Sometimes, on my Jag, the ball end would untwist before snapping, and on locking tuners, it's a gamble tuning up, especially if you change tunings occasionally. I've had a 9.5 break while tuning up after a restring on an Ibanez S.
Ernie ball strings usually last me months, and I have yet to break Pyramid strings (and I really tried to). I did have an EB 11 high E break quickly on my JM, but that was during a setup, so it was slackened and retuned a few times....
I'm sure D'addario's upper range strings, like the NYXL, are better, but when comparing string companies, their most popular, cheapest, found in every guitar shop strings are the ones that are usually compared.

I studied what was happening on mine, it usually slowly dropped in tuning. I think the tremolo just can give the perfect 'knot untying' action so it eventually happens.

Ooh those pyramid flat wound .11s look like a good set for me, i will try those if/when these thomastiks give out.

The local shop now has Ernie Balls 012 - 056 for not much more money... Anyone tried those?

yep! love them. i've switched all of my guitars over to Ernies now, various gauges. my mustang has 012-056. love them.

i used to use the 11-56 sets. they sounded beefy enough but the 22 G was unpleasant to bend. now use the 11-52 daddario sets and i find them much better quality than EBs. feel better and last longer

I’ve used them on scores of guitars for more than 30 years. I never break strings.

I have the same problem with the E string, and i think it comes more from the hole of the trem than the string itself (the squier trem is not that well finished).
So now, i pass the new string through a ball (of a old broken string), to prevent the new string from being "attacked" by the trem hole. it works pretty good and last as long as the others.

The D'Addario high E unravels at the bridge on my Musicmaster II and both my Duo Sonic IIs as well. The bridge has a similar design where the string goes through (ie a small hole) to the jag/JM vibrato. I switched to GHS and the problem went away. I haven't had this problem on my string through guitars, so I think it's mainly the bridge causing the problem not necessarily a bad string... But D'Addarios seem to not be a good match for top loader style bridges.

If people are having issues with D'addarios, what is a good affordable alternative? Please don't say Ernie Ball, as I've had really bad luck with those.

I love the strings.
Sounds to me, like offsets are the problem.

I have used for over 10 years D'Addarios - 10-46 for 25" necks, 11-52 for my Jag. I have never had any problems with strings breaking but I am open to using new strings, especially because I use the EXL110 set that has a "BRIGHT" stamped on its pack - and I really do not need my Jazzmaster to be any brighter (it still has the strings from when I purchased it)

I dont think they are necessarily bright compared to other brand of the same type.
"bright" denotes nickel plated steel, as alternative to pur nickel, flatwound etc. Or pure steel maybe they call "super-bright"!?
But yeh 'default' strings are nickel plated steel. Not sure what NYXL differ by (are carbon steel not stainless) but sound great and fatter/cut through the mix; on just about everything. Not brighter. Good option, much bigger difference though compared to even pure steel or pure nickel, like increased high mids and a lot of output.
