What bushings do I need for Gotoh staggered vintage tuners conversion?

Post by Wavedash » Sun Oct 14, 2018 12:18 pm

So I liked the sound of my '65 thinskin Wildwood Jazz master better than my Am Std 2009 Strat (heresy!), but liked the neck better on my Strat. (the poly neck is less sticky... so I put the strat neck on my Jazzmaster and after also adding a mastery bridge this new "Jazzcaster" has become probably one of my favorite guitars. The one thing I dislike though is the neck is a noticeably heavier and I think its because of the Fender tuners...

I've decided on Gotoh Vintage stagger tuners... but not sure what size bushings to use--- I need new holes drilled as well right?

Are these the same tuners? much cheaper here:

You're going to need conversion bushings. The vintage style gotoh tuners use a smaller hole than you currently have. 8.75 mm vs 10mm. The conversion bushings will fill in the larger hole.

Stewmac has high shipping costs, but stratosphere always seems to ship slow. I've bought a few sets of Gotoh from ebay seller guitarhey recently, and got them super fast. It looks like they have those tuners for $38 with free shipping, which is going to be cheaper than stratosphere, they may have the bushings as well.

Another vote for guitarhey on eBay - good price and quick shipping. They come with bushings, but they are for smaller vintage-sized holes.
