Jaguar and Squier VI upgrades
Hi folks,
So I have an AVRI '62 Jaguar on which the only mod, made years ago, was to get rid of the 'bass cut' and replace it with a series/parallel switch. I've recently bought a Squier VI which I am planning to mod heavily because right now is my main instrument.
One of the main things is of course upgrading the pickups - I have thought of maybe buying new pickups for my Jag (Lollar or Novak, something a bit fatter and less trebly than stock) and put the 2 AVRI pups in the Squier VI. Has anyone tried doing that? On paper they should be appropriate, right? Then the question is what to upgrade the middle pickup with, for that I thought maybe either keeping the stock one or buying a Novak.
Any thoughts/suggestions?

Re: Jaguar and Squier VI upgrades
A solution is fender 62ri pickups. fender sells them separately.
You can buy the bridge pickup for the BassVI I guess.
I have two jaguars one with 62ri and one with 65ri (pure vintage) both sets are great.
unfortunately fender is not selling 65ri separately
if you don't want to have the same pickup bridge and middle you can keep the stock or go for aftermarket pickup

I didn't much like AVRI pickups from a Cyclone I had in my VI—too muddy for my taste. I put in a pair of Roadhouse pickups and an AV65, and they have much more clarity and punch.

Re: Jaguar and Squier VI upgrades
Thank you. It looks like the setup is neck-bridge-neck with the bridge pu in the middle position. So I'd need to buy either one AVRI 62 neck pu, or aftermarket.George L wrote: ↑Thu May 31, 2018 5:41 amA solution is fender 62ri pickups. fender sells them separately.

I've never tried a bass vi with avri jaguar pickups but to be honest avri pickups are very similar with av65.
I think I prefer the 65 bridge pickup and the 62 neck.

Re: Jaguar and Squier VI upgrades
I just put a AVRI '62 neck pickup in the bridge pos. of my Squier VI. It's so much more articulate and balanced. It's 5-something-K. I grew tired of the 11k Squier VI bridge pickup, all loud and middy. Now the thing sounds so nice, it's my favorite pickup. It was reverse-phase from neck, but same polarity, just swapped its wires. I'm getting a second for the neck position
Don't get me wrong, the Squier pickups have "that sound", but I wanted a vintage bridge and the remaining's sound less sharp than the Fender.

Re: Jaguar and Squier VI upgrades
I have an upgraded Squier VI that has three '62 Jag pups in it. I didn't do the mods, but the '62 pups do sound great and don't leave me wanting for more. A few years back, I had a stock VI - so I'm comparing it to memory of that - but I'd say the '62 pups do sound better. I believe the seller had a second neck pup installed in the middle position.
Curious to hear how you like the series/parallel mod. That's going to be happening to mine at some point

Re: Jaguar and Squier VI upgrades
yeah in my experience this is the same for me, i miss the av65 mainly for the bridge pup
I used to be cool, now I just complain about prices.

Thanks. The series/parallel mod is great! I really like the nice thick sound that comes from both pups.parry wrote: ↑Tue Oct 30, 2018 5:00 amI have an upgraded Squier VI that has three '62 Jag pups in it.
