Staytrem measurements

Post by windows95 » Wed May 16, 2018 9:06 pm

Need help from Staytrem users who owns a digital caliper to measure the saddles' length and width and the space between slots/grooves. No info online unfortunately :(

Thanks

Since no Staytrem owners have pulled out their calipers and come forward with measurements as yet, I thought I'd present the maths for you. ;)

Staytrem do say that their E-E spacing is 52mm. Therefore, given that their adjacent saddles touch (not all Mustang-style bridges do have touching saddles), they all look to be the same width, and the string grooves are centred, thus geometry dictates ...

saddle width = 52/5 = 10.4 mm

If they are not all the same width, then the above obviously no longer applies. Like these where the different saddle widths are specified (albeit for 55mm E-E) ...

The other, outer saddle diameter you have marked must vary saddle to saddle, in order for the string groove heights to match the neck radius (most Staytrems are 7.25" but 9.5" is also available). Someone who has a Staytrem can measure the 3 outer saddle diameters (the opposite 3 must follow the same pattern), and also confirm the above consistent 10.4 mm width, or otherwise.

You have to keep in mind tolerances and what not...

I measured some and they were all between 10.35mm to 10.40mm wide, more towards the larger.

The major diameters of the three sizes were about 8.95mm, 9.84mm, and 10.31mm. But even on a single saddle the diameter varied a tiny bit from one end to the other, and combined with the error in measurement I'd say take those numbers with at least +/- 0.02mm. This was a 9.5" radius bridge.
All pain and troubles melted away like lemon drops beyond the contrails across the sky.

When mine arrives, I'll let you know. It's a 7.25" radius version.
