Tech Question for Fender Jazzmaster Pots.

Post by A_Michael_Ras_777 » Wed May 02, 2018 12:23 pm

Hello!

I would appreciate some good input here... no pun intended. I own a Fender Jazzmaster MIM (60's Lacquer in Surf-green). Currently there is a 1 Meg Linear pot for Volume and a 1 Meg Audio pot for Tone. I am so tired of the linear taper for the volume.

I like to do volume swells in my music and I understand I need a pot with an audio taper to give me that sweet gradual volume swell that I am looking for. I understand that if I just start changing pots out I could impact the tone and it could darken or brighten depending on what I use and that is something I'd like to avoid. Can someone give me some guidance on what to do?

Thank you and have a cool day!

If you have a 1M linear and like the tone but just want an audio taper, just buy a 1M audio taper pot. It will only change the taper. There is normally a 10% tolerance in pots, but I doubt anyone could really hear it... A 500k or 250k should darken the tone. So you wouldn't want those.
