Mustang Stuff

Post by Mustang76 » Tue Mar 06, 2018 4:12 am

Hi there,
I got a '78 Mustang recently, and it's got heavier strings on than I'd use on a hardtail.

It seems to suit the guitar though. I was wondering if anyone has any thoughts/recommendations on gauges for Mustangs?

I recommend at least 11s for short scale guitars. With the shorter scale, you can get away with thicker strings and still not have them feel too stiff.

...but I string all my guitars with 11s except my Strat.

This is one of those completely subjective things where you really need to figure out what's going to work for YOU. Try some 10s. Try some 9s if you're really into that.

Depending on what kind of music you play just about any gauge can work.

I use 10s on all guitars, im not a tone seeker, nor do I have any issues with slack strings.

My finger joints thank me every time too.
