Replacing Tuners AVRI 62

Post by ToneFerDayz!!1! » Tue Jan 16, 2018 8:39 am

Hi all,

The low E tuner on my AVRI has finally given up the ghost. It turns and tunes freely for about 3/4 time, but then it slips if you need to keep tuning, which seems to mean it's got a stripped gear or two. So, what's the consensus choice for a replacement set of tuners that doesn't need any drilling? Klusons?

Kluson Revolution is my favorite.
Back in those days, everyone knew that if you were talking about Destiny's Child, you were talking about Beyonce, LaTavia, LeToya, and Larry.

I like the regular Klusons. People get all weird about this-- where they come from and box color and everything else but I've refinished a number of guitars and use the bog-standard Klusons all the time. I use standard tuning and don't fiddle with things too often-- also, I can't stand locking tuners.

I get more excited about tuners than most. I am always real excited for the Revolution line.

Honestly, I never gave 'em much thought before this one died. :D Larry, what gets you so excited about these, if you don't mind my asking?

They are heavy, feel solid and strong. They look sharp. They work great. There's just a level of quality about them that is better than most other tuners.

Whether that is worth the extra money to you, I can't say.

Good to know. I looked around and didn't see any of them available in the Czech stores, so they might be something I'll pick up when I'm back stateside. In the mean time, looks like I have the choice of Gotoh vintage-style, Fender-branded "vintage" tuners, and regular ol-vintage-esque Klusons. I'd assume just go with the cheapest? I got a gig in two weeks and gotta get this damn Jag shipshape! :fp:

Fender branded are Gotoh and are what is already on there.

Darren Riley and other vendors should be able to sell you a single for $10 or so.

They are indistinguishable from a relic Gotoh SD91. Even the tuners on my 2001 AVRI have Japan stamped on the back of the tuners.
They are designed for a 8.75 / 11/32" hole.

No need to buy tuners from the US, your friendly German music supermarket got you covered.

There is a screw that keeps the gear on the string shaft. That starts to loosen causing the issues. I have actually repairs old tuners, but buying new ones is so much easier.
Woof!
