I have judged many a band by their shitty gear. I'm not proud of this. If their songs are good it's not an issue, but in my days as a player in marginal opening band, I got to watch a lot of dull bands with lame gear.

I think the ideal TGP strawman would be "what shade of tan pants creates ideal tone for my $4,000 basement rig" or "what Hawaiian shirt poly blend for ideal blues sounds?"
