JM Blacktop HS improvement

Post by nico2mars » Fri Nov 17, 2017 8:05 am

Hi, I'm gonna buy a used JM Blacktop HS in good condition, I wonder if any upgrading/improvement can be done on this model to your experience.
Thanks.

Upgrades are relative. The Blacktops are good guitars. If you don't like the pickups, change them. If you don't like the looks, swap a pickguard. But really, worry about that after receiving it. There's nothing wrong with them stock.

Oh ok well i ment more things to clean, verify or change due to previous use ....
I noticed some rust over screw heads caused by sweat i assume, do i have to polish or replace it ? For the pots, some electric co tact spray cleaner ?....
For the esthetic i would have use cream or parchment plastic color with the sunburst body finish...not black... with a tortoise shell pickguard , and maybe a humbucker sized P90 or SD P-rails for the bridge pickup !?

Tarnished screw heads pose no functional issue. Contacts don't need to be cleaned if there's no noise when you use the electronics and everything works as it should.

There's nothing that automatically warrants replacement just because a guitar is used. As with any guitar, a good setup is never a bad idea.

There is deposits of green verdigris corrosion on the metallic part of the 3 way pickup switch !? do you think it is "cleanable" or must be changed ?
