When you have an old Jazzmaster that needs frets, who can you trust? What kind of wire are they using?
I've seen so many sloppy bad refrets on old Fenders. Chip out, jumbo frets, deepened slots, superglue accidents, thinned fingerboards, frets pulled out instead of tapped out from the side.
When my vintage Jazzmaster needs frets, I want it to look right, feel right, and play right. That means getting the right size fret crown, the right size tang that doesn't blow out or require deepened slots, and being careful tapping out the frets. And don't sand out the fingerboard, leave it

Got my '59 JM neck refretted by Tym Guitars here in Brisbane. Took them a while to find the proper fret wire. It plays so much better now than it used to.

what is the difference between vintage fender fretwire from the 50s/60s/70s and fender vintage fretwire?
I refretted an old neck and cant honestly tell the difference in feel/size...
However I put in the frets from above (instead of early Fender style meaning sideways) without chipping tear/out...
would the experts like to enlighten us?
This is the one I used (below including parts nr)...
Genuine Fender® Vintage Guitar Fret Wire 24 pieces, Part # 099-2014-000
Fender® vintage-style guitar fret wire is pre-cut in 24-piece quantities pre-radiused to 7.25".
Measurements: .045" tall, .083" wide. Cut for guitar fingerboards
Im heading off to the "Post when yer drunk thread" now so see ya later

There are reliable people all over the place, and I'm sure you could get pictures and testimonies from satisfied customers before you send the neck off.zepset wrote:When you have an old Jazzmaster that needs frets, who can you trust? What kind of wire are they using?
