Japanese Jazzmaster Pickguards

Post by Fuzzmaster » Mon Jul 31, 2017 1:44 pm

Hi all,

I'm having a hard time trying to find anywhere on the net or here in the UK that sells Japanese Jazzmaster pickguards!! I've currently got the standard vintage brown pickguard but I'm after the red tortishell one.

Does anyone know where I can lay my hands on one? Or if anyone has got one for sale?

And will the pickguards made for USA models definitely not fit?

Thanks for reading!

This is coming up a lot lately again!

Allparts US red tort pickguards will fit - I know because I used to have one on my CIJ. They are made using the Japanese template, whatever Allparts themselves say.

Keep in mind that both the Allparts *and* the original Japanese red tort is not "real" tort, but it looks as good as the brown tort that comes in MIJ's these days IMO.

You can buy a US pickguard and just drill a couple extra holes and angle the rest in, but there's not really a red tort pickguard in the US that I know of, unless you're really looking for a more reddish brown than the Allparts/older MIJ pickguards.

Hey there!
I hope I'm not too late...

There is a guy in the UK called Brian (he has a shop at ebay under the name earlpilanz).
The Shop is closed from time to time but when it's open he has all kind and colours of Jaguar and Jazzmaster (also Telecaster and Stratocaster) Pickguards - to fit either US, Japanese or Mexican Models - and that on a really reasonable price!

I just ordered a piece of brown tortoise from him to make my own - because the fitting of my Pickups on my luthier-modified Jag isn't the standard HH-spacing!

He also has some really sweet looking necks with block inlays and/or bindings from time to time and other useful parts!

I hope you find what you are looking for!

Hey there!

As luck (or bad luck would have it) I managed to find a Japanese red pickguard from the States....only to find this earlpilanz guy selling exactjy what I want but without the long shipping time and (regrettably) half the price of what I've just paid :(

If this pickguard I've ordered isn't great I'll check out earlpilanz.

Thanks for your help!

He's from Glasgow. And his shop is currently open! I just checked! :)

Yep, I saw his shop only a few days ago. At which point I'd already bought the pickguard from the States :(

Ohh. What a pity!

Well, you could still order from earlpilanz and sell/return the other pickguard you already ordered - or get one as back up! ;-)

I'll see what this pickguard looks like when it arrives, might be ok!
