If the string plates steel is as hard as the fulcrum, you are in for some fun.
Think drill press, cutting fluid etc, let alone tapping it out. Those things are heat treated, forged or similar.
I suspect that the import ones are made of softer stuff, when I read posts about people taking to them with a file.
One of those cases of if you don't have access to all the right tools/equipment, it might be easier to throw money at the Mastery.

My dad has always been a metalworker, but yeah, that's why I was debating it. Stereordinary/Paul was telling me a few months back that he'd done it once and it was hard to drill...

Re: Mastery Trem + Staytrem Collet?
Many guitar cases won't fit the guitar with arm in place, so isn't this a bit inconvenient? Or have I missed something? The Mastery shouldn't be loosening up under use, either. It's designed to be pretty much infinitely adjustable to personal preference and have no slop in the arm/collet interface (and the arm is supposed to be kept installed at all times).

The arm just gets pushed downwards a little when the case shuts.
I've been leaving the arm(s) in for many years across many offset guitars and never had an issue, including with an extremely tight fitting Hiscox Liteflite case where I had to lean on the lid while closing the latches. Just regular AVRI vibratos and arms.
(Also, leaving the arm in prevents the collet teeth from stretching out from constant insertion/removal of the arm.).

Kinda wonder if they could be the cause for some of the reviews I read that I mentioned earlier...andy_tchp wrote:(Also, leaving the arm in prevents the collet teeth from stretching out from constant insertion/removal of the arm.).

Re: Mastery Trem + Staytrem Collet?
with mastery keeping the arm in place is a must, i decided to ignore directions and removed the arm constantly until dirt got into it and the arm was seized and wouldn't move at all
mastery fixed it for free and i learned my lesson
