12 string mustang??

Post by palesnow67 » Mon Jul 03, 2017 8:06 pm

Can you install a warmoth 24in 12 string neck into a mij 69 reissue mustang body? I think it'd be a cool idea. Or maybe i'll get a squier vm mustang body off ebay since the body is a bit thicker. either way has this even been done yet??

You'd need a new bridge too obviously... Is it possible? Well, with enough time, money, and effort....

And a different bridge location. The Warmoth 12 string necks are 25.5" scale. The mustang is typically 24" scale.

If the intonation was close, you could just use a Jag/JM bridge since two strings could sit side by side in the threaded saddles.

I feel like someone else would have done that if it was that easy and worked properly. I feel like it my kill your strings resonance a lot.

Hey, I'm staying tuned, I hope you go for it, I'd like to see it.

My instinct is that it'd be neck heavy. But also you might be better off starting with a duosonic / hard-tail mustang body in order to have more options for the bridge.

I installed a Warmoth Jazzmaster neck onto a Fender Jazzmaster body. I had the neck retrofitted with six additional tuners. There is a guy on Ebay that advertises his services to do it. I supplied the neck, so I think that charged me about half of what he advertises for. The guitar turned out great. Obviously the headstock is heavier than a 6 string, but the comfort of the Jazzmaster body kind of offsets any negative balance issues.

You could have someone build you a 12 string with the right scale length, or you could move the bridge on your body and use a warmoth neck. Ive seen people use a regular jm/jag bridge for 12 strings, intonation wont be perfect but thats part of the wobbly 12 string sound!
