Strings with Silk Wrap

Post by funkyeah! » Sat Apr 29, 2017 5:16 pm

Hey all, I'm looking for electric strings with silk wrapped ends for my archtop. I'm having trouble finding what brands have silk wrapping around the ball end of the string because all that's coming up are silk and steel strings.
What brands have a silk wrap and are roundwound?

I should mention that I'm trying to get a heavy guage too. Like 13s

The strings you've linked to are flatwounds. Do their roundwounds also have wrapped ends?

Check these out for sure cost you a little more but last a long time. I put up the extra cash for the artist series custom gauges and you get to choose the color of the wrap. takes a couple of weeks as they are hand made but its worth it if you have the cash.

I'm pretty sure Thomastik Jazz Bebop strings have wrapped ends-I know the Jazz Swing flatwounds definitely do as I've got a set on one of my Gretsches. Might be worth contacting them to find out.

I use the TI Jazz Bebops (round wounds) and the wound strings are wrapped at the tuners but not at the ball end fwiw.

Huh, the wound strings on the Jazz Swing set I bought are wrapped at both ends. Maybe they only do it on the flatwounds or something.

Could be. Or could be a gauge thing - I only use the 11s - may be larger gauges are wrapped both ends? They're wonderful strings either way 8)

Thanks for the tip! An acquaintance of mine also uses these on his ES-335 and seems to like them a lot.
