60's Jazzmaster Lacquer Tremolo Arm

Post by sorrysomehow » Sat Apr 29, 2017 12:17 pm

Hey Guys,

I got a really great deal on a 60's Jazzmaster Lacquer yesterday off of craigslist. Unfortunately, the guy that sold it to me couldn't locate the original tremolo arm that it came with. Does anyone know which exact replacement arm that it takes?

I've spent a few hours scouring the internet and have yet to find a specific answer. I even asked at Guitar Center and they had no idea.

Fender's website says it's a "pop in" arm, but everywhere else I look says that the MIM Jazzmasters use threaded arms. I just want to make sure I buy the correct size so I don't damage it.

Also, I have given thought about upgrading the tremolo system, but I wanted to give the stock tremolo a shot before doing so.

Thanks!

While this will make no sense you need the arm that fits a stock MIM JM trem setup, the USA model won't fit. I also have a 60's Lacquer JM. After a while I got the USA term assembly and I ordered it without the arm. Only then do I find the MIM arm won't fit the USA part. So just be sure you order an arm for a MIM guitar.

Just in case you're still searching or if anyone else is wondering, the trem arm from my Squier VM Jazzmaster fits perfect and looks virtually identical to the original arm that came with my 60s Classic Lacquer JM.

Good to know what other arms will fit the 60s lacquer JM, as the official parts list has the trem arm as part number 7705063000 (same for 60s lacquer jag), which seems to be essentially unobtainable ...

Adding to that, that 60s lacquer parts list has the trem itself listed as follows ...
"TREMOLO VBT005 W/LOGO" 0081138000

That "VBT005" trem is a Korean OEM trem with push-in arm (sometimes with lock sometimes without) that it seems Fender has used on a number of their cheaper guitars. But then they give the trem and arm their own, sometimes different part numbers.

Anyway it thus makes sense that arms off several different (all non-MIA ?) push-in arm guitars will all fit.
