I found the main reason Jaguar pickups squeal is because of the metal "claws" - my solution was sto squeeze them tighter against the sides of the pickup cover to kill off any movement, other people just take them off because it's easier.

In My Experience can or cannot be the claws. My novak neck pickup squeals like a pig with some amps (esp. A fryette deliverance 120) and it doesn't even have the claws.. I would rather change or waxpot piclups - actually I'm aboit to install SD litttle 59s, but that's another story..

in my experience, jag pickups especially japanese ri's are always microphonic. my clients can't even gig them properly with the squealing all the time. I wax pot them along with the claws and it's always a sure fix.

I wax potted my Squier Jag pickups and fixed the squealing 100%. Claws, covers, the whole thing.

Well, I have ordered one pair from Buddha. If I'm going to take these off and wax pot properly, might as well try something new, like kosmonautmayhem suggested. I should receive them by the end of the month. I will keep you posted once I have them installed.

Maybe sell and buy a set of potted pickups? There are quite a number of people, myself included, that like the sound of un-potted pickups and actually think the microphonic squeal is desirable in some situations. This is why we do things like buy Univox Humbucker reproductions and then spend several hours with a hair dryer trying to restore them.

Update:

I got a nice set of Buddha alnico 4 Jag pickups, potted with covers on. I installed them last week and I'm really happy with them. Tim was kind enough to answer a few questions I had as I was deciding on the specs. They are also reasonably priced. (No affiliation).

No more squeal, and a great tone overall. I am going to wax pot the stock set, and use them on a project down the road. They do sound great when they don'd feedback uncontrollably.
