The AV 65 pickups I put in my MIJ JM squeal on anything above halfway on the gain knob for my rat. It happens in the bridge, neck, and middle position. I'm accustomed to single coils and feedback/hum at high gain but this seems different. My questions:
1. is this caused by a "microphonic" pickup condition?
2. Do all non-wax potted JM pickups do this?
3. Is there a cure?
Thanks

Looking at the Seymour Duncan website, it looks like Antiquity IIs are wax potted. Maybe that would be a good alternative.

I have the same pickups in a partsmaster and don't have abnormal feedback issues. what's the rest of the signal chain like?
you can always pot the pickups you have... just takes a bit of patience and solid thermometers.

Re: JM pickup question - squealing / microphonic
I went to guitar center today and tried a guitar with (I think) the same pickups with a rat and could not reproduce the sound. I am starting to think the culprit is some faulty wiring in my diy rat.
p.s. these are the pups

AV65 pickups are wax-potted. So the problem lies elsewhere.

I'm having the same issue. Where you able to figure out the cause of the problem? Thx!
