I'd just like to drop a note of appreciation for this thread (and forum). You have no idea I keep coming back to this list, trying to figure out which is the sound I'm hearing in my head! Thanks so much!

What a great resource! I don't own a JM right now and am currently on the hunt for the right one and was debating what kind of pickups. The only problem now is that I like those Novak PAF's as well... guess I gotta find me two Jazzy's now!

I recently put some Novak's in my Costello Jazzmaster. JM-V (neck) and Tele-Jazz (bridge). I absolutely love this combination. They are very balanced and all pickup combos sound great and cut through in a band mix. Stoked!

I ordered a Pair of Novaks yesterday - JM-V for the Neck and JM-90 for the bridge. I see a previous posted has the same combo. Curtis had recommended the JM-90 after I originally asked for the JM-V only. He said it has a better better balance. I am psyched and I can't wait to put them in and play. If I can figure out how to post pictures I'll do that too.

I just ordered a set of his vintage pups for my MIJ. Can't wait to throw them in. I'm hoping I'll finally be able to use the bridge pickup position!

Wow. Just found this post...What a list. Thank you so much.
As my own build gets closer to reality, I'm now having a serious re-think as to what I'm gonna put in there. I've got a jazzy, not looking to recreate it, but the hb's are getting close to what I'm hearing in my head. This is gonna take longer than I thought...

What an amazing job. Thanks. I am really considering a Novak JM-V bridge pick up now.
I recently bought a Vintage 66 jazzmaster with original pick ups. It sounds cool. But is so far off from my AVRI pick up that i am used to. I actually like the sound and tone of my AVRI better. Anyone out there feel the same way? I am considering changing out the vintage pick ups with something that is hotter, and breaks up a little better. But i am hesitant and want to keep the guitar as close to original as possible.
Any suggestions out there?
Thanks

You should probably give Curt a call and let him know what you have. I'm no expert and I don't know what a Vintage '66 should sound like. I can tell you that Curt usually suggest the JM-V for the neck and the JM-90 for the bridge since it has better body and balance with the JM-V. Its one gritty pick up, I love it. Who knows maybe for you he may suggest something different since you have a vintage guitar. Go ahead and give him a call he's a real pleasure to work with.

I can definitely vouch for the Pickup Wizards! I got the pre-CBS spec pickups and now my JM has THAT sound now. My tech AB'ed them against his CIJ with Antiquities and we were definitely impressed with the results. A HUGE improvement over the stock pickups. Still gotta roll the tone back a tad on the guitar, just enough to take a little sting off the top.
