I have my eye on some Kluson 6 in line tuners but they come in a solid strip rather than individual parts. I am told they are pre CBS. As I am getting a neck made up I thought they would do just as well as 6 single tuners.
Is there any difference in quality between a solid strip of 6 and a set of individual tuners.
Anything wrong with these Klusons....

Re: Anything wrong with these Klusons....
Those were used on some models of the original USA Peavey electrics in the 70s. I think the Gibson Firebird may have used them too. I'm sure there were others.
I bought a set once (double-lines) to do what you are proposing. They closed at only $25 on ebay, and there's a reason for that. They don't fit, the spacing is quite a bit off. I was thinking of cutting the strip between each tuner and trying to make them look like six individual, but the gaps would be too large. Another down side is that they didn't have the Safe-T-hole in the middle of the post... which I love.
There's probably no way to make these look right, even though with some work they could be made to function.
Edit: Just realised you are having the neck made up. Would that be custom made, so the tuner holes would line up? If so, then go for it... if thats you want. To actually answer your question, no... there's no quality difference. And oh yea... since they are not Fender... CBS wouldn't have anything to do with it (pre or post). People just love to use that term!
