2022 Duo Sonic Bridge setup help.

Post by broomhandle » Sun May 12, 2024 8:03 am

Hello,

I purchased a Duo Sonic in parts from Stratosphere. I feel kinda screwed because after its all done, for the same price I could have purchased a used Duo.

I have a 2023 Neck, 2022 body. The hardtail Bridge is a #0060068000 which I contacted fender, they stated it will work. Original part number is 7705099000. No info for spacing on either.

The issue I have is the saddle screws all the way up. The strings still hit the fret board. The neck truss rod tension is level.

Any thoughts?

Is there a shim in the neck pocket causing the neck to tilt back too much?

No shim. Both body and Neck are brand new from Stratosphere.

Interesting. I'd check to make sure the neck pocket is flat and the heel doesn't have any globs of finish keeping things from sitting flat. If they're fine, I'd shim to change the angle of the neck as necessary.

Yep, neck pocket is flat. I popped off the neck again to double check. All good. If I shim, it would be even more extreme, the saddles are maxed out.

I did a shim "the other way" with 2 pokemon cards. I feel it really did not do much. I do not understand this one. It is a 2022 Duo body with a 2023 neck. Maybe possible bad/low nut? These are take offs from Stratosphere. I feel super lost on this one, and the cost is more than I wanted. :(

It's hard to tell what's going on without having my hands on it. Most of the time I'm much better at figuring things out than I am at communicating things.

I'd love to see what's in the neck pocket and the angle of the neck once bolted in.

An angled wood shim like these would probably help, but those Pokemon cards should do something.

In your case, those Pokemon cards should only be where I marked this pic of a body and the other two screws should be wood-to-wood.

BTW, which Pokemon? LOL

Yes, the red box where you stated is what I am shimming. I cut a pokemon card in 1/2 and it raised it a tad, but still a buzz. I added a 2nd. It is better, but i feel there is a long way to go. the saddles are still maxed. I have some stew mac wood shims for another project, But I feel this is insane. this should be good from the factory. I am already upset with this build, and it was a mistake to buy it in pieces. My cost is now the same as a used version.

..and, garbage energy pokemon cards.. lol

Can you post some good, high-res pics of the pocket and the heel of the neck?

Photos below. The pocket seams like it has buildup, but it does not. And This is the 2nd neck stratosphere shipped. the 1st was destroyed, I think before it was shipped. It fit the same, but I did not put on strings. Still don't get it.. (And the neck pocket with all the holes... wtf)

I'd love to put a T-square on that neck pocket. I bet it slows downward, so maybe a 1° shim will do the trick

As far as the holes, I wonder if they had to stick it in the finish booth a couple times for some reason and needed multiple sticks.

That is a good idea. I will try that if I can find one. I wish I did not buy this one... ugh. CRT-Z?

It doesn't look like it was used as a weapon to beat the previous owner so it should still be fixable. We got this!

So, it looks like the 1 degree shim backwards will work. I did look at the pocket. It does look like the pocket is angled up. It just seams extreme I have to use a shim not the way it should be used. I have never shamed a guitar backwards like this. :)
