Re: NGD G&L SC-3
I’ve always liked the look of some of the g&l stuff and this falls into that camp. I always dig Fender/g&l things where the neck is painted to match the body too instead of just stopping with the body and only sometimes headstock.
My local shop, right as that first batch of American Pro guitars was coming out, cancelled a huge order with their Fender rep and instead got a bunch of custom G&L guitars that all feel subpar compared to like, the roadworn Strat sitting beside them, even though their bottom price is like $2k across the board. When I asked what happened one guy told me they got a few of the AP guitars in and they all had major problems and fender was shitty to them about remedying the issue, so they weren’t gonna even try and get more of them. I wanted to try one of those Jazzmasters so bad (and eventually did and oh my god what a total boner killer). But then another guy told me their fender rep was just an asshole, said nothing about why and nothing about problems with any inventory and wouldn’t answer questions, and then like a week later they announced they’d still get Squier and Mexican/Chinese Fenders in but no more American stuff and that included like, specially ordering a guitar thru the store or whatever.
They started carrying Epiphone stuff, a fuck ton of it actually, right around Christmas. Super annoying for a guy who loathes Gibson.
All this is riveting and super relevant, I know. I’ve yet to really play a g&l six string I ever thought was great. I should try and snag an earlier one like this though and see what’s up sometime. It looks like it could be fun.

Congrats!
Love G&Ls. My first guitar, the one I cut my teeth on was a ‘82 two-pickup, trem-equipped SC-1. I miss it

Re: NGD G&L SC-3
Sounds like you don't like Epi's, Fenders, G&L's! What do you play?
I agree Fender & Squier have QC issues & they are difficult to work with when you have a problem while still in Warramty period... From what I've seen & experienced on recent new purchases it's mostly little things that shouldn't be issues at all... Sharp Fret ends, loose or unsoldered Wiring, inoperable Switches & Controls etc. It's not just the $399.00 Guitars either...
Much of them shouldn't be sold as New. Especially since Fender doesn't want to work with you when it comes to your Warranty. They should be sold As-Is as Blems at Deep Discounts. Many who buy the Squiers don't care since they're going to rebuild them anyway....
As for Epiphones I find their QC much better... Even the $399.00 Guitars.. Usually a new Set of Strings & a minor Set Up, which all Guitars need anyway, & you're good to go... 100% better when it comes to Warranty issues..
Although, at Winter NAMM the Fenders & Squiers I tried, including the new Squier CV's, seemed like they are addressing the QC Issue... I hope it wasn't just those Guitars for the Show.....

Crazy! I’ve had such a different experience. To my ears (and hands I guess) G&L’s almost always feel superior to Fender’s- and this is coming from a Fender lifer. The Doheny’s I’ve played and the one I owned were phenomenal. The 80’s Leo-era G&L’s are the best kept secret out there. Superb fit and finish, amazing vibratos and I LOVE the MFD’s.

Dayum.. That is one fine guitar right there. Good purchase (at whatever you paid!) It's a rare genuine Leo beauty.
Sound clips would not be unwelcome.

Re: NGD G&L SC-3
I recently picked up a 1982 G&L SC-2. Been meaning to post my own NGD. Truss rod was maxed out, but I fixed it and a couple other very minor issues...got it for a steal so I didn't mind. Absolutely love, love, love this guitar. Not sure if the MFDs in yours sound the same as the jumbos in my SC-2, but wow helluva a goddamn pickup. They sound so killer, and it resonates and sustains like no one's business...I'm totally sold on the whole saddlelock design now. love it, man. leo forever

Re: NGD G&L SC-3
Congrats! They sound and play like nothing else.
My #1 is a 1984 hardtail. When I started playing in a band in '88(!) my best friend who owned it gave it to me, saying, "You need this more than I do."

I'm sure some Fender dealer in '64 looked at the new Duo-Sonic II and thought, "That's not a Duo-Sonic. That's a Mustang".

Wow, that's fantastic and SO 1986.
Here's my '86 SC-3, its fraternal twin! The much less rare colour known as "red."

Awesome score- My SC3 feels like it doesn’t fit in here
King Buzzo: I love when people come up to me and say “Your guitar sound was better on Stoner Witch, when you used a Les Paul. “...I used a Fender Mustang reissue on that, dumbass!

Psh, get that pickguard out of here!
Seriously though, the SC-3 is the best strat I've ever played.
