Thin Skin's are back!
Starting with '65 JM. Not sure if this has been posted yet but looks promising for new colors with the modern wire and radius.

Hmm, I live about 15 minutes from there. When I was shopping for my last thinskin, they were kind of jerks about me trying out a few of them to make a decision, so I bought online from Dave's...lol. I guess those places really want in store customers to treat the purchase just like internet buyers. They were jerks to a friend that was shopping for a Rory Gallagher as well.

almost twice as much as in 2008 or 2009 when they first came out
Just for a standard AV65 that has thinner paint? C'mon

Re: Thin Skin's are back!
I saw these yesterday and thought they just screwed up the description since they just look like the AV65 series, but then looked at the specs (radius and frets) and sounds like the original thin skin run. What's interesting is the price and the fact that they have a V serial number and not the LE or SE serial numbers of the original run.

Re: Thin Skin's are back!
I thought they were at least $1,599 when they came out.
$2,299 is not double, but it is a rather substantial 44% more expensive---

Re: Thin Skin's are back!
The neck has binding doesn't it? That would be based off the AV65 series and is that not close to what that series cost new? I am sure it has the same hardware and pickups in it as the AV65. THe thinskins before were on par with the AVRI cost as well

Huh, I'd always thought that AV65's were thinskin "by default"; that the AVRI's had a poly undercoat or something but the AV65's were pure nitro.

Re: Thin Skin's are back!
I read something recently about how all the Fenders, even the ones labeled as thinskin have that undercoat to seal the body that is poly. Is that true of these special run thinskins as well?wk_end wrote:Huh, I'd always thought that AV65's were thinskin "by default"; that the AVRI's had a poly undercoat or something but the AV65's were pure nitro.

Re: Thin Skin's are back!
They're not any higher priced than the regular AV65s. I find it interesting that they'd do a special run in a finish you could already buy. Thin skin or no. I hope to see some different shades.

Re: Thin Skin's are back!
I always thought the same thing - AV65s have a "thinskin" nitro finish anyway. The real difference appears to be the 9.5" fretboard radius and the taller frets.wk_end wrote:Huh, I'd always thought that AV65's were thinskin "by default"; that the AVRI's had a poly undercoat or something but the AV65's were pure nitro.

Let's get our marketing terms in line guys - Current AVRI's have a "flash coat" finish...these are "thin skin" Hoping to see new colors...wonder what happened with Music Machine in WA - loved those guys.

Re: Thin Skin's are back!
Everything about these screams AV65 except for the word "Thin Skin" and the neck radius. I'm more inclined to think Wildwood has some Aztec AV65s and just got their website copy mixed up.
I've been wrong before, but there's too much evidence pointing one way and not enough pointing the other. Let's not let wishful thinking rule the day.

Think Skin or not I love that they list the weight and 1st/12th fret measurements. Wish everyone would start doing that!
